Welcome to the Szabó Lőrinc Eco-School Development Support Association website!
Our association was founded in 2021 with the aim of providing organized support to community initiatives that have been helping the school's environmental education programs for years. Although we are currently in the process of obtaining public benefit status, our activities are already similar in nature to the work of public benefit organizations: we implement programs and projects that go beyond the everyday life of the school and create value for the wider community.
Our goal is to fill the Eco-School title with real content and to implement complex educational programs that are organized around sustainability, environmental protection, and the preservation of Hungarian cultural traditions. With our work, we contribute to children acquiring environmentally conscious thinking in an experience-based manner and becoming active, responsible members of their community.
Our activities are open to families, local residents and anyone interested. We believe that through the power of community collaboration, we can create initiatives that will serve the long-term future of our children, our environment and our city.
We are dedicated to this NGO work because supporting the community and helping children develop is the most important thing for us. The goal of our association is to support children's education, introduce innovative pedagogical methods and share good practices nationwide. We achieve all this by strengthening schools and enriching pedagogical work.
Our activities: As a non-governmental organization supporting the Eco-School and its community, we work for the students, the community, and our environment. We educate children on responsible animal husbandry, the preservation of our traditions, and the basics of self-sufficiency – all by empowering them with experiential programs, practical knowledge, and community experiences.

Animal-Assisted Education at the Szabó Lőrinc Eco-School
The Association established the nationally renowned petting zoo at the Szabó Lőrinc Eco-School in 2021, building on which Animal-Assisted Education was launched at the institution. The goal of the program is for children to come into direct contact with animals, while developing their empathy, sense of responsibility and environmental awareness.
In the petting zoo, carefully selected, friendly animals assist the learning process in a safe and supportive environment. During the education, students participate in playful, experience-based activities that strengthen social skills, reduce anxiety and make everyday school life more motivating.
Animal-Assisted Education is closely linked to the eco-school approach, with a high priority on respecting nature and living things. The long-term goal of the program is to serve as a model for other institutions and contribute to the upbringing of a more conscious, responsible generation.

- Our association supports the everyday life of the Arany János Gimnázium Elementary School and Dormitory Szabó Lőrinc Member Institution with innovative education and continuous developments. Our goal is to create an inspiring, safe and green school environment where students are happy to discover knowledge.
- The association pays special attention to supporting disadvantaged families and students. With programs, tools and personalized help, it contributes to ensuring that every child has an equal opportunity to participate in education and develop their talents.
- Strengthening the eco-school community is also an important task. The association organizes community-building events, family days, environmentally conscious actions and extracurricular activities that bring students, parents and teachers closer together.

- The long-term goal of the association is to make the Nyíregyháza-Sóstóhegyi Szabó Lőrinc Eco-School an exemplary institution where quality education, environmental awareness and a cohesive community are given a prominent role at the same time.
Experienced educators:
The association organizes Talent Support sessions every school year, where students can develop in the area of their choice: Music education, Sports, Language learning, Animal care, Gardening, and many more areas that promote - especially - the situation of disadvantaged students.
Playful learning
Animal-assisted education works effectively in our school. Dorka the dog helped the 2nd graders understand the math lesson material. The children really enjoyed this special lesson.
Sports activities
Sports are one of the most effective means of educating students about a healthy lifestyle. The association supports swimming lessons for students, taking them to the swimming pool with its own transport vehicle.
School Garden Program – Self-Care Education at Szabó Lőrinc Eco-School
We launched the school garden program at Szabó Lőrinc Eco-School, which aims to teach children the basics of self-sustenance and self-care in practice. As part of the program, nine raised beds were created and a greenhouse was built, where students can monitor the development of plants all year round.
The garden grows fresh peppers, tomatoes, peas, onions and other seasonal vegetables, which the children plant, care for and finally taste with their own hands. The direct experience helps to deeply integrate respect for nature, healthy eating and responsible thinking into their everyday lives.
The school garden program serves as a model for other institutions, encouraging schools to support sustainability and environmentally conscious education with similar initiatives. Such projects strengthen the community in the long term, develop children's practical skills, and contribute to building a greener, more conscious future.
